oh, i'm so glad some people still read this like me. i really love to read what everyone is doing. as for me, i'm still at the same place i started after school. i work in pacu at imc in salt lake. i love love love it. i actually do the nights. i do 11p-7a 3 nights a week and i love all the trauma work i get to do. i went back to the u of u to finish my BS in psychology that i had started before ameritech, so it's nice to be done for good (but, who knows, maybe a masters later) as far as my personal life. my hubby and i are probably going to be doing ivf because we haven't had any luck having babies on our own. crazy! it's so fun to see everyone's kiddos and hopefully more people will update here.

Congrats to Jake on getting into CRNA school. Way to represent! I have been enjoying the ER at Timpanogos still and have fun running into some school buddies in other departments on occasion. I am actually on maternity leave at the moment. Two weeks ago, our family welcomed another little girl. We are so excited to have her here! Hope everyone is doing well and can't wait to hear what everyone is doing.

Hello everyone!,
I updated the blog a little bit so that it might create a little more interest. If any are still following this blog please let us know what you are doing.
I am working as an RN in Same Day Surgery at Timp Hospital. It has been a great job for me. I enjoy working there. As for schooling I haven't done much more since Ameritech, but am applying to BYU to finish a Bachelor's degree there this Fall. As for my family we just added a little boy to our family besides the girl we already have. Our girl is 3 and our boy is about 10 days old.

Well it has been a while since I have last posted something, I hope there are still some people out there that check this blog out. I have since got my BSN from BYU-I, I am still working ICU at TIMP in Orem and now I am headed off to CRNA school, crazy I know. I can not belive how lucky I have been with school. I will be going to Westminster in SLC and I start this AUG 24th. I have not had a break from school since before I started Ameritech. Remeber how when I started Ameritech my wife had a baby, well dejavu we are going to have another baby two weeks after I start school. We are going to have another boy. Well this is my update! It would be great to hear from some more people so get blogging.

hello my fellow classmates. i have missed seeing you on a regular basis. you guys were my family in utah for a while. i just thought i would let you all know that i finally passed the NCLEX in october after only the 5th attempt. and i would let you all know that utah has changed it's laws so you can no longer take the NCLEX as many times as you want. you now have 3 years, or 4 attempts to take it or you have to go back to school. i took my 4th attempt on the day they changed the rules so only by the grace of god i was able to slip through the cracks, but i took a course by hurst and it was totally worth it cause the 5th time i got 75 questions. i am so glad it is behind me so i can now move forward!!! hope all is going well for you all!!

Hey Jake, I am glad you are doing great and Noah is adorable. Good luck on the new house. When did you start ICU? I have toyed with the idea, but not quite ready for it yet. I am still in womens services. Med/Surg tele. and with be tele certified and chemo certified shortly. I love it but they are short staffed and I have had to relief charge a couple of times and it scares me to death. I think you are so smart to continue with school. I wish I would have just kept going, now I think it will really be a struggle to go back. My work does not offer part-time and until they do, there is no way I can throw school on top of work. Maybe next year when we move back. I still hope to get my masters some day. It is so good to hear everyone is doing well and enjoying there jobs, it is still amazing that we are done and working nurses. And we started Ameritech off with a bang thats for sure. I think having hard working nurses to start with allows the next classes more job opportunities. Anyways the best thing about Vegas is the unions, I am not a member but they keep salaries up with great yearly raises. We have a few nurses who make around $42.00 and with the offered overtime and incentives they can make $80 an hour. It is sickening thats for sure, but hey if you ever want a change you can contract as a traveler for 13weeks make a ton of money and go partying at night. Good luck with everything and keep in touch

Paula I am glad they finally excepted you down south! I was getting a bit worried that you might have taken up pole dancing or some other exotic profession. J/k. Well I am glad that everybody is doing so well. I little bit about me since the last time we chatted. I am still doing my BSN through BYU-I on line. I want to shoot my brains out because it is so much busy work and paper after paper, but don't let that deter any of you from going on. I am glad I choose to keep going, it will all be worth it in the end right? (at least that is what I keep telling myself) I am working in the ICU at TRH in Orem and I love it. I am toying with the idea of applying to CRNA school next year. Yeah I know you are all thinking typical male nurse, what a dork! I want to go on to get a MSN before I choose to never go back. My son Noah will be turning two in august crazy huh! Enjoy the picture of us hiking. My wife and I put an offer on a home in Spanish Fork so we are crossing our fingers. Hello Everybody, Just a quick update. We are still in LA. Christine is off ECMO and should be off the ventilator in a few hours. She is responding and can recognize me and Randy. She is answering yes and no questions and she is very mad that she can't talk. They are having to keep her restraints right now because she keeps trying to pull out her vent. I can't really blame her. Right now our problem is, our insurance won't approve transfering back to Utah. So she is going to surgery for a pacemaker/defibulator on Monday morning and then hopefully discharge on wednesday. Then we'll either fly or drive her home ourselves. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. Kristy or Lupita can you please update David at work and let him know I'll call when I know we're coming home? Thanks again, Sarah Phillips

I got this e-mail from Sarah on Friday night and feel I need to forward it to everyone. Sarah and her family needs all the love, prayers and support that we can give them.
Dear Friends, Early Thursday morning our oldest daughter Christine went into cardiac and then respiritory arrest. I was able to preform CPR within one minute and continued until Paramedics arrived. She is currently being cared for at Rady's Childrens Hospital in San Diego California as we were on a family vacation. She is currently in stable but critical condition. She is on a ventilator, ECMO, heavily sedated, and has just been started on TPN. The current plan is that she will be transfered to UCLA Medical Center tomorrow (Sat.) as they have the ability to better wean her from ECMO and possibly place her on an LVAD. This would make it easier to transport her home to Primary's. There are many people praying for our little girl and am asking for you to join us. For those of you who are LDS, our ward is starting a fast for Christine Sunday night at 8:00 if you are interested in joining us in that fast. Please let other friends know. Well it is good to hear that everyone is doing so well. I want to let everyone know that your licence will officially transfer to California if need be. I just got my permanent California license in the mail yesterday!! I was a little scared for a minute because Ameritech had to write them a letter but Carla did it personnally and took care of it right away. Everyone is right that says nursing in California is totally different. Nurses always going on strike, and you would think California would be technologically advanced but hey not where I'm working the glucose monitors are the size of a shoe box and that is minor compared to other things. Hey at least it is warm upper 70's this week!! Hope everyone is good and enjoying life!

So yesterday my daughter tipped over her chair eating breakfast and cut open the back of her head on the back of the chair. I cleaned her up and then we headed over to the Instacare here in Orem. Lo and behold, Jen M. is our nurse! I love to have these connections from school and such. It's fun to see everyone practicing and doing well. Good job everybody!

Hi it has been a long time since we have all talked. Well I had my baby girl on March 8. She is beautiful and a lot of fun. She was 7lb 3oz and 20 in. We are doing great. It was funny right before I gave birth Anne H. walked in. ( It was her first day at JVH in the nursery) She was there to take care of my baby right when she was born. Thanks Anne! Oi, from Brazil. Melissa and I are soaking up the rays with our hubbies in Brazil for 2 weeks. We thought it would be fun to take a picture near the clinic in Foz de Iguassu, but we've all talked about how we want to be taken to the consolate and flown home should any of us find ourselves injured or ill. It has been nice to have some time off work, but look forward to getting back to the norms of everyday life. It is very weird living in a third world country for 14 days, but it has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Hope life is treating everyone well and we'll see you back in the states on March 4th.

Sorry I haven't been here for a while, been busy working. Good luck Jana, just keep trying, don't give up. I'm working in dialysis as before, but as a nurse now!!! and I just wanted to let you know or if you could pass it along to other nurses, or future nurses, that we are VERY short staffed in the dialysis field. The company I work for, has 3 facilities right now, and is to open 3 more in May, there are three in the valley, 1 will be in bountiful, 1 in layton, and 1 in ogden. But we can't find any nurses, we have posted in the want ads and other online stuff for months, but no luck. So if anybody's still looking for a job, or wants a change it's an awesome field I promise. we do 3 12's, pay starts at $21, (they might negotiate at this point), health, dental, 401k, blah, blah, blah! all of that stuff too. If you get into it, later on you could do acutes which is at the hospital, or work in the home department, which is kinda really easy for the most part. Anyway...let me know if anyone's interested or know of anyone. Hey! I just wanted to let you all know that I PASSED with 75 questions. I am so happy about it!!! I just moved down to Labor & Delivery at Timp last week. Everything is going well w/ us. My hubby just started up to school again and it is causing major scheduling stress in our household. I am so, so, so thankful though that I am graduated and I am an RN and that I never, ever have to take that bloody test again!!! Happy day!

Good Luck Jana, just remember you deserve to pass. Congrats to you guys (Nancy and Jen T) That is awesome, and it surely relieve a lot of stress. I just had surgery and got job while I was a patient. They interviewed me while I was in the hospital in my pajamas, with bed head and on percocet. I start Jan 21st in womens services which is a surgical and cancer wing for women (no men foley's for me). Anyways I hope everyone had a great Christmas and enjoy the snow.

now that the holidays are over, (i spent christmas in the salt lake airport :( ) and my wounds are about healed, i am ready to try again! my only problem is that i have no idea how to go about it. i guess taking millions and millions of practice questions? so i guess my main point of this blog is to ask where did people get sample questions? which is the best brand? how many should i do? etc.....any help would and always is appreciated!!!! i did read the kaplan book, which is how i think i psyched myself out to begin with! so that did not work for me. :(

So I got into BYU-Idaho's BSN program and will be starting this January as well. Pretty amazing how things work themselves out. Originally they had denied me and then on Monday I got an eceptance letter from them saying that they opened more sections to there online BSN program and that I could start this Jan. if I wanted.( it is good to know that Ameritech is not the the only crazy nursing school out there). I'm glad to here that so many of you have decided to come and work c me at TRH. It is a great place to work. Some news about Amertiech if you have not all ready heard. Libby has since moved on and has went back to Virgina. I hope that place does not fall apart and hopefully Libby whip cracking took its toll and they are doing what they are ought to. It was fun I had to go and get some documents from Ameritech and see all the SMURFS that are still there studying and to realize that I am an RN and graduated, I had to pinch myself. FYI for all those that are going to BYU-I, I signed up for a STATS class through New century learning, what is formerly know as the easiest math ever. It only takes 8 weeks to finish and they have a money back policy if you don't pass. It is an actual class that they hold and it is through BYU independent study. It starts Jan 8. If you want to call me about it fell free (227-4458). The only down fall is that it i about $1,000, but if you suck at math like me it might be worth it. The class sizes are small they only admit 8 students at a time. Classes are T, THUR from 3-5pm. Merry Christmas to everybody and I hope you all have a great holiday season

congrats to all who have passed. i am so very proud of you!!! i would like to start the re-takers club. i do get to re-take my test at the end of january. who knew i needed to be an expert at Schizophrenia to pass the NCLEX? :) but thank you mary for the time advice. i did take longer on this test than the last one cause i second guessed all of my answers. if anyone has any great words of wisdom they are greatly appreciated!!!

I hope all is going well for everyone. I can't believe that it has already been about 2 months since we graduated!!!
Anyways, I wanted to see where everyone is at? Have you taken your NCLEX? Do you have a job? Where at? Is it going well? Is there any other news you have? How is life treating you, etc.? (That type of thing.) I just wanted to see how everyone is doing.
As for me I just got a job at the Timpanogos Med-Surg department, and I just got accepted into BYU-Idaho's Bachelor's program for January 2008! I am really excited, and things are going well. That is about it for me, so how are you all doing?
(Also, if you know anyone else who isn't posting to this blog that should please let me know. Just give me their e-mail address, and I can send them an invitation to post to the blog.)

New info on the NCLEX

I was talking to a girl at work that is a Nursing student. She said one of her instructors just became one of the NCLEX exam writers. This instructor told the students something interesting that she had found out about the NCLEX. Because the test is computer adapted to each test taker that there are a lot of factors that determine how difficult or easy your next question might be. She said one of those factors is the amount of time you take to answer the question. The longer you take to answer the question, the computer figures you don't know the answer and are just guessing, even if you eventually answer correctly. I guess the take home message is. . .don't spend too much time reading and re-reading the questions, just use your test strategy to choose the most correct answer and move on. Just thought you all might want to know that. By the way, I passed my NCLEX a couple of weeks ago! It was the best Christmas present I could have received! WELL I WAS NOT AS FORTUNATE AS MOST OF YOU WERE. I HAD ALL 265 Q'S ON MY TEST AND SOME HOW AND SOME WAY I CAME OUT ON TOP AND PASSED. IT WAS A CHALLANGE TO SAY THE LEAST, 5HRS AND 265 Q'S LATER I WAS DEPRESSED,I THOUGHT THERE WAS NO WAY I PASSED THE TEST. SO IF ANY OF YOU HAVE TO ANSWER ALL 265'S THERE IS STILL HOPE AND IF YOU ARE STILL GETTING Q'S YOUR ARE STILL IN THE GAME AND STICK TO IT AND YOU WILL PASS. IM GLAD THAT SO MANY OF YOU HAVE PASSED AND I CONGRATULATE ALL OF YOU THUS FAR AND TO THOSE OF YOU STILL STUDYING WORK HARD AND GOOD LUCK YOU WILL PASS, TAKE ME AS AN EXAMPLE, IF I CAN PASS EVERYONE CAN PASS.

Well everyone..I am extremely thankful today for I too, passed the NCLEX. I had 75 questions and about 7 "select all that apply." I thought it was not too bad because I must have been preparing for a lot worse. I'm happy to see that many of you have also passed. Good luck to those who still are scheduled to take it. My advice, just do TONS of practice questions. What a wonderful Thanksgiving gift for me. Thanks for all the support everyone!

Hello again. It's Ashley Owens. I just wanted to get a feel for how everyone is doing on practice tests. I've been using Sauders Q and A, the book Ameritech gave us, and Kaplan. I'm getting 75-80% on Saunders comprehensive tests. 70%-ish on Kaplan, and on the Delmar book that Ameritech gave us I'm getting about an average of 75-80%. What are your thoughts on this?? Good enough to take it??

FYI if you have a yahoo email and didn't receive an Auth to Test, check your bulk or spam box, or call Pearson Vue. They told me that some yahoo addresses were not allowing their emails to come through. Also Ogden has a little more availability than Draper, if you don't mind the drive. I scheduled for Nov 15th. I know most of us are stressing about getting our NCLEX scheduled (or at least wondering when our transcripts will be in!) but I thought it was nice to take a moment and enjoy graduating. Well, I have sent e-mails to everyone that I have an e-mail address for so that they can post to this blog, but I believe that I am missing some of our other classmates. Those that I am missing are Ben, Brian, Sharon, Emily, Shauna, Ingrid, Valentine, Megan, Candice, Denise, Dawn, Deborah, and Tiffany. There may be a few more, but I think those are the only others that I am missing. If anyone has any information for them so that I can contact them I would appreciate it. Also, if anyone knows of anyone else I may have missed please let me know.

Congratulations everyone on graduating!
